Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the optimal utility of Open-Mouth Method and Metal Artifact Reduction for Orthopedic Implants (O-MAR) technique in Oropharynx CT.

Material and Method: Philips 64-slice MDCT was used in the study.A Pig head was used and four titanium screws were used as the Dental Implant.T he images obtained from five experiments were analyzed.T he author measured noise level in two anatomic regions and decided to apply the most reasonable device to clinical study.5 9 patients were included in this retrospective study. On conventional CT with/without O-MAR(CTc_O/CTc) and Open-Mouth CT with/without O-MAR(CTo_O/CTo), The author measured noise level in multiple anatomic regions of the oral cavity and oropharynx.T he visual scores for streak artifact and overall subjective image quality were assessed.

Results: Device 3 was applied to clinical studies because of the lowest noise average in phantom study. In Oral Cavity, the mean noise was lower with CTo or CTo_O than with CTc or CTc_O, and the mean visual scores were higher with CTo or CTo_O than with CTc or CTc_O.C ontrarily, in Oropharynx, the mean noise was higher with CTo_O than with CTc or CTc_O, and the mean visual scores were higher with CTc or CTc_O than with CTo or CTo_O.

Conclusions: Open-Mouth Method and O-MAR could have different influence on CT image quality. The Protocol, which further proceeds with Open-Mouth Method, after the Conventional CT, will be useful in assessing both Oral Cavity Diseases and Oropharynx Diseases.
